Gordon, a slave under segregationist America, had managed to escape by rubbing onions on his body to shake off the dogs chasing him. Symbol of slavery, it recalls here our conscious and unconscious relationship with money, capitalism, the race for wealth, at the cost of justice, freedom, human life. But it is money that enslaves us. We are real slaves.
